MOORESVILLE, N.C. (November 15, 2016) – The Kasey Kahne Foundation held the seventh-annual Five Kahne 5k on October 9th at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in uptown charlotte. Voted as the best 5k in Charlotte by Endurance Magazine readers in 2015, the Five Kahne had over 400 participants during the 2016 event and raised over $25,000. The proceeds raised will benefit Novant Hemby Health Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, and will also grant field trips for local youth to learn about STEM programs at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
For the second-consecutive year, NASCAR driver and host of the Five Kahne, Kasey Kahne, initiated the Beat Kasey Challenge. For every runner that beat Kahne in the 5k, he would donate an additional $105 to Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. Due to rain and the NASCAR race postponement at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 8th, Kahne was unable to attend and participate in the Five Kahne. However, his personal trainer, Ryan Von Rueden, ran in his place for the Beat Kasey Challenge.
Von Rueden finished the 3.1 mile race in 22:01, placing him 31st overall in the event. The 30 runners that finished ahead of him in the Beat Kasey Challenge totaled at an additional $3,150 donation to Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital.
“I was bummed I couldn’t attend this year,” said Kahne. “We have a great support system in the local community that continues to make the 5K a success year after year. I’m glad that we had some avid runners come out and beat trainer Ryan so we could donate some additional money to Novant again.”
Braylon Beam, a seven-year-old North Carolina native who is currently battling cancer, was the special guest of the event leading the participants in warm ups, the race start, and the Kids Dash event which was held through Glory Road in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Thanks to all of the Five Kahne sponsors, including the presenting sponsor Great Clips, Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, Quicken Loans, Sprint, NASCAR, Adams Investing and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
The eighth-annual Five Kahne is scheduled for Sunday, October 8th, 2017.
